Show HN: Death Plan Switch, a self-hosted dead man's switch for solo devs

What HN thinks

A thread about planning for your own death, mostly spent arguing about check-in frequency and AI-written landing pages.

Weekly check-ins too frequent
Many want configurable or longer intervals, since a missed weekly email is far more likely to mean a holiday or a full inbox than death.
Humans and process over software
Critics argue business continuity needs documented procedures, trusted people and rehearsals, and doubt any self-hosted system will keep running reliably for years.
Too AI-made to trust
Several dismiss the AI-written copy, the Claude-generated unit tests and a project buildable in a few prompts, while others defend sharing small useful tools.

Consensus: Most agree the bus-factor problem is real for solo devs, but that the switch should be configurable and only one part of a broader human continuity plan.

Recommended in the comments

Google Inactive Account Manager ↗ (service): An existing, low-effort option that checks in roughly quarterly.
Temporal (tool): Suggested so the switch's scheduled operation never fails.
Laravel (library): Cited as part of why PHP remains easy and productive for web apps.

Blog post from Reproof arguing that notes apps act as insurance for the mind, letting ideas be forgotten, and that this is a good thing.
