What HN thinks

A server room full of grown engineers quietly typing "make it not so" and pretending there's dust in their eyes.

Picard as leadership role model
Many credit Picard with shaping how they think about management and integrity: assertive but compassionate, relying on his crew's expertise and owning the outcomes. Several say he was effectively a father figure.
Remember the range, not just Trek
Commenters celebrate his comedy (Extras, American Dad, Frasier), Shakespeare work, I, Claudius, Dune, and his COVID-era sonnet readings.
TNG's utopia is still fiction
Some caution that Roddenberry's no-infighting rule makes Trek leadership unrealistic, sparking debate over whether that constraint made TOS and TNG better than later series.

Consensus: Nearly everyone agrees he was a formative, decent presence on and off screen whose Picard shaped a generation of tech people. Many plan a TNG rewatch in his honour.
