I Returned My iPhone Duo

What HN thinks

A thread about returning a phone, mostly spent debating whether anyone should have to hear about it.

Owners love the big inner screen
Several Duo owners say the unfolded screen is a game changer for reading, maps, agents and work on the go, and they're keeping theirs despite trade-offs.
Touch ID placement is the weak spot
Even fans complain the side-button Touch ID jumps around with orientation, and many want Face ID or an in-display sensor like Android has had for years.
Returning or blogging about it is odd
Some found returning a non-defective phone, or writing a post about it, wasteful or attention-seeking, while others defended it as a normal post-purchase review and return windows as consumer protection.

Consensus: Most agree the Duo's big screen is genuinely useful but that biometrics and third-party app support are immature first-generation weaknesses.

Recommended in the comments

GrapheneOS (product): A commenter praised it on a Pixel 10, including its desktop mode.
LibrePods (tool): Adds AirPods niceties when using Android.
Aqua Voice (product): Recommended as good dictation software to pair with the Duo for work.
